Personal Mission
My mission
is to honour God, help people and live it up!

Missional Mandate:
At Liberty, God has called us to awaken and pursue the two ‘core values’ of His Kingdom, namely, Righteousness and Justice. The Bible is clear in its revelation of God and His priorities in the earth. God is a “Father to the fatherless, Defender of widows” (Psalm 68:5) which means that God is drawn to the weakest link in society. Widows and children under threat are the justice issue of our time, especially where so many Orphans & Vulnerable Children are oppressed and impoverished. God also rules the universe from a foundation of Righteousness and Justice (Psalm 89:14). In fact Jesus confirmed that the entire Word of God can be summed up in two Commandments .. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul (Righteousness) and love others, your neighbour, as you love yourself (Justice).

We are passionate about people finding their purpose in Jesus and then living the adventure of serving His purpose in making a difference in their family, church, community and world! We have no doubt that the greatest catalyst for spiritual growth is obedience to God’s word lived out in serving His Purpose/ Mission! We believe that this commitment is best worked out in every person being a fully devoted and functional member of the Church, a biblical Community, pursuing the Commission Jesus issued in Matthew 28.

Leadership Culture:
At Liberty we are convinced that when anyone follows Jesus, they are following the greatest leader who has ever lived. What makes a great leader is someone who is first of all a great follower.. and so anyone that follows Jesus is destined to lead in Life! Our world lacks leaders .. people who lead with integrity, passion and for a cause greater than themselves. We believe there is no greater cause on this planet than the cause of Christ and that the local church is the hope of the world because if Jesus is building anything, and He is, He is building His church.(Matthew 16:18)

At Liberty we teach the Word of God by equipping and empowering all people irrespective of age, gender or ethnicity to lead in life .. to lead in their families, schools, clubs, communities, businesses .. to influence every sector of society, whether in education, media, politics, or wherever they have opportunity.

There is an open invitation for every person at Liberty to discover their strengths , explore God’s investment in them and to serve their way to greatness as we serve a great God!
Liberty is a high challenge environment that elicits faith in each one of us to rise above the average and mundane to pursue living a life of impact in fearless pursuit of God’s purposes

The journey so far...

Liberty was planted in September 1993 in Randburg South Africa by a team of 60 Godly go-getters led by DJ and Karen McPhail with a passion to see unchurched people become followers of Jesus.

In 1998 Liberty merged with Christian Caring Church (planted by Pastor Martin & Dawn Geddes in the '70's) and moved on to the campus in Kelly Ave Boskruin. It was there through the powerful ministry of Jim Cantelon that Liberty was called on to the forefront of justice ministry in serving widows, orphans and those in under resourced communities at the epi–centre of the AIDS pandemic in Southern Africa.

In 2003 we moved on to our present Campus in West Ave, Ferndale, Randburg.

In 2007 Discovery Campus, formerly Discovery Christian Life Centre,  became the 2nd  campus after DJ and Karen were invited to lead the church by Tim and Liezl Healy and the Elders. This church, originally known as Roodepoort Assembly, was planted in the early '80's by Pastor Sam & Louise Ennis.

In 2008 a church we had planted in an informal settlement in Zevenfontein 10 years previously, moved with the community to a new formal location just north of Johannesburg called Cosmo City. With help from a church in England (Church on the Heath - Elvetham Heath) and the generous Liberty family we built a beautiful facility which is presently our 3rd Campus.

In 2009 Liberty started a 4th campus in the United Kingdom under the leadership of Dennis and Wendy Graham-Parker.. as well as releasing Marcus and Emily Pryor with a team of 23 families to plant an edgy ‘emergent’ church in the Northern suburbs of Johannesburg.

In 2010 Liberty Kent started Sunday experiences and is growing rapidly with terrific favour in the surrounding community.

This year also saw the beginning of a growing number of people receiving Christ as Saviour and many fantastic baptisms. Both Discovery and Randburg also appointed 4 volunteer Regional Pastoral couples to manage the Pastoral care & Small groups in each of the 4 regions on each campus.
In 2011 ..you be part of God's unfolding story ..

Liberty Statement of Faith

We believe:
The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God... there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Ghost... in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His personal future return in power and glory... the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the blood of Christ... regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation... in believer's baptism by total immersion in water, in obedience to the command of Christ... the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing for the human body in answer to believing prayer.. the baptism in the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:4, is given to believers who seek it... in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life.. in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation... that the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a local expression of a body of believers who are led by recognized, delegated authorities; and who assemble to worship, carry forth the Great Commission, and to minister as the Holy Spirit leads to fulfil the Righteousness and Justice mandate of scripture... that the New Testament Church should be apostolic in nature and governed by delegated authorities... that God’s plan of finance for His work is by tithes and offerings and that it is a joy for His children to acknowledge His Lordship in this manner.

“This is who we are, what we believe and the values we have as a Liberty Church family.”
